India vs England, 1st T20I Match,England in India, 2016
Following Test and One-Day International (ODI) series, India and England square off in three-match T20 series. England of late have been dishing out impressive performances in the T20 format and also were runners-up in the World T20 2016 held in India. The opening T20 will be played at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.
After whipping out New Zealand in both Test and One-Day International (ODI) series, India now hosts England side. It is a long home season for India, and the home side will face England across each formats. The two teams will first battle it out in five-match Test series, which starts on November 09 at Rajkot. The Test series ends with fifth and final Test at Chennai from December 16-20, 2016. After the Tests, India and England will play three ODIs in January 2017. England’s tour of India then caps off with a three-match T20I series.
The last time England toured India was in the year 2012. And the visitors registered an historic 2-1 win in four-match Test series. The Alastair Cook-led side will be looking to emulate that performance as they face World No. one Test side. Coming into the tour, England faced Bangladesh in three ODIs and Two Tests in Bangladesh. The English side won the ODI series 2-1, but the Test series ended in a draw with both teams winning one each. It was Bangladesh’s first Test win over England. However, England did largely well in conditions that were exactly opposite to what they are used to. So, facing a top-notch side like India will only make things difficult for them.
Against New Zealand, it was not just one department but both batting and bowling contributed in the win. While in bowling Ravi Ashwin led the charge in batting captain Kohli led from the front. In ODIs, India experimented with some players. Kedar Jadhav as a surprise package with the ball however he failed to deliver with the bat. Also Manish Pandey missed out an opportunity to cement his place in the ODI side. Middle-order batsman Suresh Raina, looking to make a return to ODI side failed to recover from a viral fever and had to sit out. India faced some fitness issues against Kiwis with openers Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul and fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar missing out on few matches. Fast bowler Ishant Sharma also missed the whole series as he was suffering from viral fever. All the Indian team members are expected to be fit in time for the England series.
